The Beginning

I haven't had a blog since I was in high school but I do know that every blog is supposed to have an obligatory "This is me" post. So here it goes:

My name is Ashley and I am a wife and mother along with about 12 other titles that every mom gets. I started crocheting when my daughter was about a year old. I was taught by my best friends mom and the first thing she taught me to make was the granny square.  Then I bought the "Stitch n Bitch - the Happy Hooker" book and taught myself to read patterns. After that, I was "hooked" (hahaha... I know I know).

Fast forward several years and many many failed Etsy names later and Hooktopi was born.
My aunt asked me to make some of the Octopus amigurumis that were being sent to the NICUs for the hospital where my little cousin was born. I was happy to do it. After people saw the pictures of them they started asking me to make them one.  That gave me an idea. I love making the Octopi so I decided to start listing them on my Etsy.  There was one problem though a name I needed a catchy name. I have to admit that I am a sucker for a good pun but all of the really "punny" Etsy shop names were taken so my mom and I went back and forth trying to come up with a name that was relevant but catchy. Then one day it happened I combined the word Hook with Octopi and than Hooktopi was born.

I have been Hooktopi for a year now and it has grown more in the past year than it has since I started selling on Etsy. I hope that in 2018 it only continues to grow.
